Ukraine's Zelenskyy is still ready to negotiate after exchange with Trump, Vance in Oval Office

 Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has expressed his continued commitment to peace negotiations following a contentious meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance in the Oval Office. The encounter, described by Zelenskyy as "regrettable," led to the abrupt suspension of U.S. military aid to Ukraine, heightening concerns amid ongoing conflicts with Russia.

Despite the tense exchange, Zelenskyy emphasized his readiness to work under President Trump's leadership to achieve a lasting peace. He proposed initiating negotiations that include measures such as prisoner exchanges and mutual bans on missile and drone operations, contingent upon reciprocal actions from Russia. 

In addition to peace efforts, discussions are underway for a minerals agreement between the U.S. and Ukraine. This prospective deal would grant the U.S. access to Ukraine's mineral resources and contribute to a jointly managed reconstruction fund for Ukraine. However, the agreement currently lacks explicit security guarantees for Ukraine, a point of concern for Ukrainian officials. 

European leaders have voiced support for Ukraine in the wake of these developments. French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer have endorsed Zelenskyy's call for renewed dialogue and have offered peacekeeping troops, contingent upon a ceasefire agreement. 

The suspension of U.S. military aid has introduced uncertainty into Ukraine's defense strategy, given its reliance on external support to counter Russian aggression. Zelenskyy has underscored the importance of clear communication and constructive cooperation with the U.S. to maintain Ukraine's sovereignty and regional stability. 

As the situation evolves, Zelenskyy's commitment to pursuing peace and securing international support remains steadfast, reflecting Ukraine's resilience in the face of ongoing challenges.
