Several well-known comedians are voicing criticism against their fellow performers who have accepted offers to appear at the Riyadh Comedy Festival in Saudi Arabia. The criticism stems from the country’s controversial human rights record, which includes restrictions on freedom of speech, women’s rights issues, and the treatment of dissidents. Opponents argue that by participating in such events, international comedians risk being used as a tool for "sportswashing" or "culture-washing," where entertainment and sports are leveraged to soften global perceptions of Saudi Arabia. Supporters, however, say that such cultural events can help open dialogue and promote gradual change within the conservative kingdom. The debate reflects the wider question of whether artists should engage with nations accused of human rights abuses or boycott them to maintain ethical integrity.

What Happened The victims have been identified as Bill “Papa” Putman, Barb “Neenee” Putman, and Megan Putman. Several other family members—including Blake, Lulu, Alena, Noah, and Gia—were injured in the crash and are currently hospitalized. Police say the semi-truck driver was arrested at the scene. The family emphasized their Christian faith, expressing hope for eternal reunion in Heaven despite their grief. Meet the Putmans originally aired in 2017 on TLC, showing multiple generations living under one roof. Later, the family launched a YouTube series called Growing Up Putman. The Trump administration has announced plans to redistribute $2.4 billion that was originally allocated to California’s high-speed rail project. Instead of funding California’s controversial project, the administration wants to channel this money into a new $5 billion federal program aimed at supporting rail projects across the country. The new program will focus on initiatives that can boost passenger traffic on U.S. railways, improve connectivity, and modernize infrastructure. Officials argue that redistributing the funds will ensure better nationwide benefits rather than concentrating them in a single state. California’s high-speed rail project, which was intended to connect San Francisco and Los Angeles, has faced years of delays, ballooning costs, and political disputes. The Trump administration has been a vocal critic of the project, labeling it as wasteful and unrealistic. If approved, the $5 billion program will support various passenger rail projects, potentially improving travel efficiency and offering alternatives to air and car travel in several regions of the U.S. This move highlights the administration’s focus on national rail improvements while reducing support for projects that struggle to show progress.
