Bay Area Man Scammed Out of $6,000, Chime Reimburses Only After Media Pressure
A Bay Area resident reported that he lost $6,000 in a scam and struggled to get help from Chime, a San Francisco–based fintech company. Despite spending nearly 30 hours on the phone with Chime’s customer support, the man said he couldn’t get his money back.
Frustrated by the lack of resolution, he reached out to 7 On Your Side, a local consumer advocacy news segment. After media intervention, Chime finally reimbursed the money.
The case highlights growing concerns about digital banking security and customer service in the fintech industry, where victims of fraud often struggle to get timely support.
