California Passes New Law on Vaccine Schedules
California has passed a groundbreaking new law that allows the state to set its own vaccine schedules independently, rather than relying solely on federal guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Under this law, California can now create immunization schedules based on recommendations from independent medical organizations and state health experts. The legislation also requires insurance providers to cover any vaccinations authorized by the state.
Supporters argue that this move will give California greater flexibility to respond to local public health needs and ensure faster access to new vaccines. Critics, however, warn that differing guidelines could cause confusion and inconsistency across states.
This new law makes California one of the first states in the U.S. to establish such autonomy in vaccine policy, reflecting ongoing debates about federal versus state authority in healthcare.
