Sweden’s King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia Attend Annual Royal Rally

On August 31, 2025, Sweden’s King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia graced the annual Royal Rally—popularly known as His Majesty’s Rally. This prestigious event was hosted on the picturesque island of Öland, where the royal couple joined vintage car enthusiasts from across the country.

The Royal Rally was first introduced to honor King Carl Gustaf’s 50th birthday and has since become a much-loved tradition. It is held every two years, combining elements of history, culture, and royal charm. For the past 16 years, the King and Queen have taken part in the event, drawing large crowds and global media attention.

This year, the King and Queen drove their legendary 1946 Volvo PV60, a vintage car that has become a symbol of the rally. The route was a 10-mile loop across Öland, featuring rest stations and lighthearted competitions along the way, allowing participants to celebrate Sweden’s automotive heritage in a festive manner.

The 79-year-old monarch looked elegant in a grey suit, paired with a white shirt and red bow tie, finishing his look with brown loafers and a matching hat. Queen Silvia, equally graceful, appeared in a green double-breasted coat, black trousers, and a white shirt, perfectly balancing royal sophistication with the rally’s vintage theme.

What made this year’s event even more remarkable is that it marked their first appearance since August 2021, following a brief hiatus. Their return brought renewed excitement among royal watchers and car enthusiasts alike, highlighting the monarchy’s close ties to Swedish cultural traditions.
