U.S. Forces Korea Commander Stresses Adaptability in Alliance with South Korea
U.S. Forces Korea Commander, Gen. Xavier Brunson, has emphasized the importance of “adaptability” in strengthening and modernizing the long-standing military alliance between the United States and South Korea. Speaking on the evolving security environment in the Indo-Pacific, Gen. Brunson pointed out that growing threats from China’s regional influence and North Korea’s continued provocations require a dynamic approach to defense cooperation.
He stressed that the alliance must not only focus on traditional military readiness but also adapt to emerging challenges, including cyber threats, space security, and advanced missile technology. Furthermore, Gen. Brunson highlighted the significance of forming coalitions with like-minded nations during times of crisis, ensuring that both South Korea and the U.S. remain prepared to deter aggression and maintain peace in the region.
This renewed call for adaptability underscores Washington’s strategy to keep the U.S.-South Korea alliance at the core of regional stability, while expanding cooperative frameworks with other democratic partners.
