🇨🇲 Cameroon Election Dispute: Opposition Claims Victory, Government Dismisses It
Cameroon’s political scene has been thrown into tension after opposition leader Tchiroma Bakary declared victory in the recent national election. Bakary said that his team had gathered and analyzed results from individual polling stations across the country, and based on that data, there was “no doubt” that he had won the election.
However, the ruling party quickly dismissed Bakary’s claims, calling them “illegal and baseless.” Several government officials stated that only the Constitutional Council has the authority to announce official election results. They warned that any premature declaration could lead to instability and confusion.
The situation remains tense as both sides await the official verdict from the Constitutional Council, which is expected to release the certified results in the coming days. Political analysts say the standoff could deepen divisions in Cameroon’s already fragile political environment if not handled carefully.
