Netanyahu Confirms Rafah Crossing to Remain Closed Indefinitely — Humanitarian Crisis Deepens

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has announced that the Rafah border crossing in Gaza will remain closed until further notice, despite earlier claims from the Palestinian embassy in Egypt that it had been reopened. The announcement has created further uncertainty for thousands of Palestinians and humanitarian organizations waiting for aid and evacuation.

The Rafah crossing, which connects Gaza to Egypt, is a critical lifeline for civilians seeking medical treatment, essential supplies, and safety from ongoing conflict. Its closure has halted the delivery of humanitarian aid, leaving many in Gaza without food, medicine, or access to medical facilities.

International organizations, including the United Nations and the Red Crescent, have urged Israel to reopen the crossing immediately to allow humanitarian assistance to reach those in desperate need. Egypt has also expressed frustration, saying that its teams are ready to coordinate aid transfers if Israel lifts the restrictions.

Meanwhile, the situation in Gaza remains dire, with shortages of fuel, food, and clean water continuing to worsen. The UN warns that prolonged closure could lead to a catastrophic humanitarian collapse unless access points are opened soon.

Netanyahu’s government has stated that the crossing will not reopen until “security conditions” are met, but no clear timeline has been provided.
