Gavin Newsom Says “Rules of the Game Have Changed” in Dealing with Trump
California Governor Gavin Newsom, in a wide-ranging interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” said that the “rules of the game have changed” when it comes to confronting former President Donald Trump and his political influence.
Newsom noted that traditional political strategies no longer apply in the current climate, where Trump continues to shape Republican politics and public opinion. He emphasized that Democrats must adapt to this new reality by being more assertive and strategic.
During the interview, Newsom discussed the growing polarization in American politics and the challenges Democrats face in communicating effectively with voters. He also defended President Joe Biden’s record, saying the administration has made “real progress” on the economy, infrastructure, and climate policy despite facing constant opposition.
Newsom, who has often been viewed as a rising star within the Democratic Party, rejected suggestions that he is preparing for a presidential run in 2028. Instead, he stated his focus remains on supporting Biden’s reelection and protecting democratic institutions.
