His statement comes amid rising tension between the U.S. and Venezuela. The U.S. has intensified military deployment in the Caribbean, with warships and naval forces near Venezuelan waters – supposedly under the banner of anti-drug and anti-trafficking operations.
Maduro rejects U.S. claims that Venezuela — or its leadership — pose a threat. Instead, he frames Venezuela as a peaceful nation that will defend its sovereignty if provoked.
The Venezuelan government argues the U.S. military buildup is less about narcotics control and more about exerting pressure — possibly aiming regime-change or control over Venezuela’s resources.
In light of the escalating pressure, Maduro has vowed that Venezuela will not back down, pledging defense of its territorial integrity and denouncing any acts he deems “colonialist aggression.”
Summary: In short, Maduro insists Venezuela poses no threat to the U.S. — and paints the recent U.S. actions as aggressive moves against a sovereign, peaceful country.
