Elon Musk’s platform X limits Grok AI image-editing tools to paid users
Elon Musk’s social media platform X has introduced new restrictions on its AI assistant Grok, making certain AI-powered image-editing tools available only to paid subscribers. This move is part of X’s broader strategy to push more users toward its premium plans.
According to recent updates, free users will no longer have access to advanced image-generation or image-editing features such as background changes, object removal, or creative transformations. These features will now be exclusive to X Premium and X Premium+ subscribers.
The company stated that limiting these tools will help support the platform financially while ensuring higher-quality AI services. However, many users have expressed frustration, arguing that X is increasingly placing essential features behind a paywall.
Grok, developed under Musk’s AI company xAI, was launched as a rival to ChatGPT and other AI chatbots. It has gained popularity for its humorous responses and access to real-time X data. Despite this, the new restrictions may affect user engagement among free users who relied on AI tools for content creation.
X has hinted that more advanced features—such as video generation, high-resolution editing, and faster processing—may also become premium-only in future updates.
